Mission for Human Excellence (MHE) is a philanthropic organization inspired by the ideals of Thakur Sri Ramakrishna, Sarada Devi, and Swami Vivekananda. It embarked upon its journey in the year 2007 and got formally registered in the year 2009. The initialization of the organization was guided by monks belonging to the Ramakrishna Mission order as well as a few well-established personalities who excelled in social work. MHE started its activities in the remote villages in the Belpahari area of West Midnapore and focussed on the sabar community. The main focus of the work centered around nutrition, education, and health care. With each passing day, the number of beneficiaries went up and at present MHE works in more than 20 villages in that area. At present, a weekly ration is served to the villagers with special attention to the pregnant and lactating mothers. In addition to that, three coaching centers have been set up in villages of Amlasole, Amrola, and Makarbula, in which 100 + students attend daily classes. MHE ensures each child gets a nutritious meal along with education. Children with good performance are identified and placed in schools near Kolkata to ensure they get an education at par with city students. MHE also bears the cost of hostel fees incurred for the children placed in city schools. In addition to the daily routine, MHE ensures the living conditions of the sabar community are at par with a proper standard of living. This is ensured by constructing huts, distributing garments to endure harsh winters, and also ad hoc blanket distribution programs. Inspired by the success in the Belpahari area, MHE then started to expand its horizons in the Jharkhand region. Coaching centers were set up in Tumankocha and Cholagora that caters to around 80 students. Ration distribution was also introduced for the local Sabar people in areas of Sabarnagar. Ad hoc distribution of winter garments, blankets are carried out as and when benevolent people step in. For MHE, any service to humanity is an offering to the supreme. Therefore spiritual retreats are an integral part of the activities taken up by MHE members. Mission for human excellence, organizes Durga Puja, Kali Puja, and Saraswati puja in the areas mentioned above utilizing the local volunteer body of the villages. During the pujas, villagers are offered lunch and new garments to ensure their spirits are uplifted during the celebrations. -- "There is guidance for each of us, and by lowly listening, we shall hear the right word.
